UL Certified Fire Rated Roller Shutters

UL Certified Fire Rated Roller Shutters

Technical Data

Fire Resistance & Certification

The UL Certified Fire Rated Roller Shutters are tested and listed under UL 10B / UL 10C standards for fire protection and UL 1784 for smoke and draft control. These shutters are UL Listed, Factory Mutual Approved, and certified by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal. Available fire-resistance ratings include ¾ hour, 1½ hours, 3 hours, and 4 hours, ensuring compliance with U.S. building and life safety codes.

Curtain Construction

The curtain is made from interlocking, roll-formed galvanized steel slats finished with a GalvaNex™ polyester enamel coating. Cast-iron end-locks or wind-locks are riveted to alternate slats, ensuring perfect alignment and preventing wear under repeated operation or high heat. Insulated versions (Firemiser ERD20 / ERD21) use double-skin slats filled with mineral wool insulation, achieving zero flame spread and smoke development (ASTM E84).

Thermal & Acoustic Insulation

Insulated models provide an R-value of 5.3 and a U-factor of 0.189, offering superior thermal separation between interior and exterior spaces. This makes them ideal for areas where both fire protection and environmental control are required.

Guides, Brackets & Hood

Structural steel guides are bolted directly to the wall and powder-coated to match the curtain. Brackets support a steel counterbalance shaft containing torsion springs for smooth lifting and closing. The hood enclosure is manufactured from galvanized steel with a GalvaNex™ or SpectraShield® finish, providing fire protection at the head of the door and a clean architectural appearance.

Drive & Operation

Available with AlarmGard® motorized control or fusible-link mechanical activation, these shutters can close automatically upon signal from a building’s fire alarm or when a set temperature threshold is reached. After activation, the system allows for manual or automatic reset, minimizing downtime and ensuring fast return to service.

Optional Finishes

Available in standard colors (Gray, White, Tan, Black, or Brown). Upgrades include stainless steel (#4 finish), SpectraShield® powder coating in 180+ colors, or GalvaNex™ Ultra corrosion-resistant coating for demanding environments.

Components

Curtain Assembly

Single- or double-skin galvanized steel slats with mineral wool insulation (optional). End-locks maintain curtain stability and guide alignment under heat and pressure.

Bottom Bar

Constructed from two back-to-back steel angles, powder-coated to match the curtain. Optional lock mechanisms and smoke-seal systems available.

Guides & Brackets

Heavy-duty steel components ensure structural rigidity and maintain alignment. Optional face-of-wall or between-jamb installations available depending on site conditions.

Counterbalance Shaft & Spring Assembly

Steel shaft assembly containing torsion springs supports smooth curtain movement and assists in balanced operation.

Hood & Enclosure

Galvanized steel hood with GalvaNex™ finish encloses the coil and protects critical parts during fire exposure.

Drive & Controls

Choice of AlarmGard® automatic operation or manual fusible-link system. Motorized units integrate seamlessly with fire alarms and smoke sensors for automatic activation.
